File it and then polish it, you may need to use some professional tools or just ask your father or a male with a tool set.

Well I'm not sure what kind of metal you'd be exposing, possibly the type that turns your finger green, so I dunno if that's even a good idea. BUT. You need something with strong dissolving power. Mind you, you won't just be taking the gold off, but you'll literally be dissolving a layer of your ring, so it might not be all shiny and smooth underneath the gold, but the opposite. I would think nail polish remover first, try rubbing the gold off, if it doesn't work, try leaving the ring in a cup of the stuff, probably the type with acetone. Other than that I'm not too positive what might do it, maybe paint thinner? But that shits really toxic. Baking soda might also be an idea. Like, rubbing/soaking it with a baking soda paste, that stuff eats through paint, grease and a lot of other stuff, so who knows, it might work if you keep at it.

do not file it that will destroy some of the form of the jewelery
i am a jeweller.....the best way is to tumble it in a small barrel of abrasive ..there are many types usually pins made of steel in a mixture of soap which takes an hour or so
either take it to a working bench jeweler or to a lapidaryist or make a tumbler yourself... :)
ps storajek it is not really wise to suggest to anybody to try to use chemicals if they (or you) have no knowledge of thier properties and especially their dissolving / chorosive / poisonous / explosive or flammable nature......
it is not wise, indeed its dangerous
